The tour will take you to the top of the Telegraph Rock - one of the most famous nature locations in Rio de Janeiro because of the rock that juts out gives an impression that you are standing in a dangerous spot where you could fall to your death. But it's not actually dangerous as there is a plateau just a few feet under the rock where you can comfortably stand.

Telegraph Rock (Pedra do Telegrafo in Portuguese) is located in the west zone of Rio de Janeiro on Guaratiba Hill, 354 meters above the ocean level. The rock is named for the military station with a telegraph that was set up there during the second World War to survey the ocean to detect the presence of German submarines and communicate the information.

From the top, looking towards the city you can see wild beaches Praia do Perigoso and Praia do Meio, as well as other areas like Grumari, Recreio, Barra da Tijuca, Pedra da Gávea. On the other side you'll see Restinga de Marambaia - an almost 43 km long sand strip.

You will meet your licensed tour guide, who is very experienced on this trail, at Américas Shopping, Av. das Américas, 15500 - Recreio dos Bandeirantes, Rio de Janeiro - RJ, 22790-702, Brazil. This is when the tour begins. You and your guide will take an Uber or taxi to get to the beginning of the trail. The walk up to Pedra do Telegrafo takes an average of 40 minutes and there is a beautiful resting spot about 3/4 of the way up. You will want to spend some time looking at the views and taking pictures. At the end of the walk you will return to the Jardim Oceânico BRT station the same way that you came.
