This seven‑day tour traverses western Bhutan, covering Paro, Thimphu and Punakha. Travellers visit historic dzongs such as Trashichhoedzong, Punakha Dzong and Rinpung Dzong, explore Bhutan’s cultural heart at the National Library and the Institute for Zorig Chusum, and wander through the Textile Museum. A scenic drive over Dochula Pass offers sweeping Himalayan vistas before guests hike to the iconic Tiger’s Nest monastery. The itinerary blends spiritual sanctuaries, traditional craftsmanship and dramatic mountain scenery for an immersive Himalayan experience.
Day 1: Arrival at Paro, transfer to Thimphu
Arrival Paro, transfer to Thimphu, enroute visit Chuzom, confluence of Thimphu and Paro rivers. Visit Trashichhoedzong, an impressive fortress/monastery housing the Secretariat building, throne room of His Majesty, the King and various government offices.
Day 2: Thimphu
Thimphu sightseeing, visit the National Library, which houses an extensive collection of priceless Buddhist manuscripts. Visit the Institute for Zorig Chusum, where students undergo a 6-year training course in Bhutan’s 13 traditional arts and crafts. Visit the Textile Museum, which provides insight into Bhutan’s distinct art form.
Day 3: Thimphu to Punakha
Drive to Punakha across Dochula pass (3080m), offering a spectacular view over the high peaks of the eastern Himalayas. Visit Punakha Dzong, a massive structure built at the junction of two rivers.
Day 4: Punakha
Hike up to Khamsum Yuelley Namgyal Chorten, a stunning monument recently built by the Queen. Visit Sangchhen Dorji Lhuendrup Lhakhang Nunnery, housing a 14-foot main bronze statue of Avalokiteshvara.
Day 5: Punakha to Paro
Drive to Paro, en route visit Simtokha Dzong, the oldest fortress of the country. Visit Ta Dzong, originally built as a Watchtower, now housing the National Museum. Visit Rinpung Dzong, meaning “fortress of the heap of jewels”.
Day 6: Paro
Excursion to Taktshang Monastery or Tiger’s Nest (approx. 5 hours walk). Visit Drukgyel Dzong, a ruined fortress where Bhutanese warriors fought Tibetan invaders. Visit the 7th-century Kyichu Lhakhang, one of 108 temples built in the Himalayas by a Tibetan King.
Day 7: Departure from Paro
Drive to the airport for a flight to the onward destination.
