On your way to Kumasi from Cape Coast, pay a visit to the historic Assin Manso Slave River (Donkor Nsuo). This site was the final stop on the slavery route from northern Ghana and was known as the largest slave market in the area. In 1998, former slaves Samuel Carson from the USA and Crystal from Jamaica were reburied here, honouring their memory and the significance of this site in the history of the trans-Atlantic slave trade. Feel the weight of history and reflect on the past at this poignant landmark.
Arrive in Kumasi, the historical and spiritual heart of the old Ashanti Kingdom. Though annexed by the British in the late 19th century, the Ashanti people's past splendour and strength are honoured daily, especially in the tribute to the Asantehene (King). With nearly one million residents, Kumasi boasts a vibrant central market, one of Africa's largest. In the morning, we embark on a long drive back to the capital, Accra. After hours on the road, we'll take a well-deserved rest and gear up for an evening of nightlife. Let's have some fun!
