The neogothic castle belongs to the Virieu family since its construction in the XIII century. It 's located in the Chabons community in the Bourbre valley, 5km from Virieu and 15km from Voiron. it is classified as a historic building in France since 1972.
At the beginning it was just a fortified hall, during the Revolution the family had been desinherited and they moved near Geneva. They came back in 1805 and found the castle in ruins. They decided to rebuild it.
Its a beautiful example of neo-gothic style of XIX century. Apart of the castle and its rich interior visitors can see the park and a chapel. Visits are limited, best to call the castle to book and to ask for dates.
